Most everyone I know has more than a bit of cabin fever. Who knows when we’ll get to travel again freely? Most of us are really missing planned vacations and travel to places far and near. But it is too soon to return to our old ways of going about freely without concern. Wearing a mask and social distancing is here to stay for a while, in order to stay safe from this virus. We still need to be extremely careful - until there is a vaccine.

My original concept for this class was to be a planning and preparation session for my students coming on my Italy workshop that’s planned for September. But with everything online, I thought - why don’t I open this up to everyone! (and yes, we’re are still waiting to see if our September workshop will be postponed. It’s highly likely it may need to be). So we are learning to be nimble, work around our constraints and be ready for when things reach our ‘new normal’ (whatever and whenever that may be). But for right now, since half the fun of travel is the anticipation and preparation, let’s enjoy this sketchbook session.

Learning to keep a sketchbook is a great way to pass the time, document the times you are going through, as well as have a great deal of fun anticipating the wonderful things in our future. Looking to the future is one BIG thing that gives us hope!! At some point we will have a vaccine, we WILL be able to travel again, hug our friends and mingle in groups. Until then - we must make the best of it. Learning new things and stretching our horizons while having a bit of fun is the best thing I’ve found to pass the time! One of my current students told me, “Roxanne, Thanks for continuing the watercolor classes on Zoom. I don’t know if I’d be dealing with the social distancing requirement as well as I am without your class and support. Stay safe!,” And as a teacher, I feel the same way! I don’t think I’d be coping half as well without this one bit of normalcy in my life, being able to continue teaching, and seeing the comradery of these classes and all they have learned! It is truly a privilege and a thrill to be a part of their creative growth! For more about this class, click here and you’ll find all the details.

If you’re feeling like you might need to ‘call in the reinforcements’, click here for some tutorials to get a little practice and also here, to learn what I feel is the “secret to watercolor'“. I hope these help boost your confidence. I’d love to have you join our class - you can choose either Tuesday morning, or evening. The classes are also recorded, so that you can watch them over and over again. And if you’re working during those hours, no worries, you can still take part in the classes! During this last 6 weeks I’ve had students from east coast to west coast , and in between thanks to the Zoom platform! We can interact and ask questions while things are fresh on your mind! I find it helpful for me in leading the class in order to cover all the questions that anyone might have right there and then! That kind of direct feedback is so helpful for a teacher to know that she can deliver what YOU need! Don’t let perfectionism and fear stand in your way of having fun and learning something you’ve been wanting to do! I do hope you’ll consider joining in on the fun! Each week I email every student the night before with our class notes, photo references and anything you might need for the next day in class (including the link to the Zoom meeting). After each class, once I get the recording I send out both the morning and evening class recordings to every student. We also have a private Facebook group to interact and share our work.

Don’t let summer pass you by and spend it sitting alone on your sofa. You can join in with others to learn the beauty of watercolor….even if you are at the beginning of your creative journey- you are welcome to join us in the fun!
