In July of 2025, we’ll be visiting the beauty of the perigord, Quercy, and dordogne regions!

My last visit to this region was in 2019, and I knew I’d return to this area before too long. There is so much to explore, so much fascinating history and beauty….truly a painter’s dream.

**Yes - you can learn to paint this dreamy architecture!**

And now your dreams of painting in France can be fulfilled, too! I’m excited to be teaming up with Perigord Retreats for this workshop. I encourage you to visit their website to learn more about their property where we will be staying! I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to choose a July slot for our workshop - that’s when so many wonderful things are in bloom in this region (including the lavender field on the property)!

My workshops are suitable for painters just starting out, or those intermediate, more experienced painters with much brush mileage under their belts. I lay the strong foundations for new painters, and for those with more experience, I gently push your horizons to expand your skill levels. I love helping you recognize and build on your strengths, so you can reach your creative goals. I’ve developed a curriculum over the last ten years that is working, and helping painters achieve their goals.

Rates are as follows:

3500 euros for a bedroom with shared bathroom (shared between 2 bedrooms)

4200 euros for bedroom with ensuite bathroom

7000 euros for couple with ensuite bathroom

This workshop is for you if:

-you love to travel and paint (or are fascinated by the thought of it!), and you’re looking to lighten your load of painting gear (hello oil painters, this is for you!!….I’ve worked in that medium for 30 years!). Now I LOVE Traveling Light with Watercolor - and it is the focus of my travel workshops during the last six years! Watercolor sketchbooks and travel journaling is the best way to enjoy these amazing memories on a deep level.

-you are wanting to learn to paint on location (plein air). We’ll have some indoor instruction to get you started, and plenty of outdoor time in beautiful, scenic spots in the the area.

-you’re a motivated beginner and ready to take on a fun challenge (yes, you CAN do this!).

-you’re an intermediate painter but are looking to grow your confidence in drawing skills through several well defined techniques.

- you want to learn more interesting page design and lettering to make the whole page spread fun with great composition!

-you want to learn to paint landscapes with good atmospheric perspective.

-you’re fascinated by the abstract shapes in nature that can strengthen your landscape paintings.

-you want to add people to your landscapes and practice getting proportions and gestures correct.

-you love lavender and it’s on your ‘bucket list’ to paint lavender in France one day…this trip is for you! (Yes, it blooms when our trip is scheduled!).

-you want to understand basic color mixing, basic qualities of your paint (opaque vs. transparent), when to go beyond the ‘basic palette’ of colors.

-you are willing to leave perfectionism at the door, treat yourself kindly, and have fun while gaining a skill used by painters at higher levels all over the world!

-you are willing to keep an open mind, look for and praise the positives in your work, and be willing to try things you think are beyond your capability….in other words, trust the process. Mindset is an important part of making art (among other things) - and we’ll talk about that, too!

THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

-you’re looking for a class in large highly finished paintings. The course is based on sketchbook work, (which can then be developed further into highly finished paintings afterwards - it IS a great foundation for this, though!), that is not the focus of this workshop.

-you’re looking for a class in formal portraiture. The people are gestural characters in a very expressive style. They can be as refined or loose as you prefer, it is the shorthand style many plein air painters.

**Most of us have been influenced by Claude Monet! Yes, even beginners can learn to make a ‘likeness’ and learn proportions of the human figure.**

**Nothing like having your studio for the day be in a French cafe across the river from a charming village and chateau!**

**Amazing views, incredible food and wine. Hmm, I think there’s even more!**

Lavender!! Did I mention that it blooms in July when we’ll be there!! And the place we’re staying grows this!! Want to learn to mix this color purple?! The fragrance and color of these blooms are truly mesmerizing!

**Market days in the local towns are so exciting, and the best place to gather beautiful produce, wonderful photos, and delightful things to bring home!**
