Needle Ice

Needle Ice
Late winter of early 2020, I discovered a phenomenon I had never seen before, that of needle ice. Caused when the ground is full of water from a hard rain, then the temperature drops quickly and pushes all this water out of the small spaces in the ground. It was was most beautiful, delicate thing I had ever seen on my hikes. To touch it, the warmth of your skin will melt it away, but up from the frozen hard ground it’s quite a site to behold. Beautiful, delicate, and quite a breath-taking surprise.
This 5”x5” watercolor painting is mounted on a museum quality panel and elegantly framed in a gold minimalist style floater frame.
The surface of the painting is varnished and sealed with a UV protective varnished and finished with a wax and resin layer. This allows it to be framed without glass - nothing separating you from nature!
